I’m Just Ask’n

The age old question, If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”, came to me while sitting at the lightly attended breakfast with the newly elected, Madison progressive Senator Tammy Baldwin. The Senator was a guest of Forward Janesville (FJI) and the breakfast sponsored by AT&T.
Baldwin spoke and addressed some of FJI President John Beckord’s prepared remarks about the business community’s concerns and priorities. There were a few questions from the sparsely attended meeting, none of which challenged the Senator.
So if a Senator comes to speak and the business community is barely in attendance does she hear anything of note?
I don’t know- I’m just ask’n.
The Governor signed the mining bill on Monday, March 11 after a long slog through the democratic process in Madison. Opponents cried that the proponents oversold the economic benefits, I.e. the number of jobs to be created and in what time frame. The opposition pointed out that the jobs could be seven to ten years away- IF an applicant can survive the permitting process and withstands the inevitable litigation. So we passed a bill allowing mining and the promise of good jobs for Northern Wisconsinites not to mention the benefit to the mining equipment manufacturers based in our state but…
Does anyone see the irony in that?
I don’t know- I’m Just ask’n
Recently Governor Walker announced a position on casinos. From here on out all of the tribes would have to agree on the siting of a new casino.
So, can I assume the logical next step? All of the national commercial real estate companies will have to agree to allow a new company to locate in Wisconsin.
I don’t know- I’m just ask’n.
